I think the secret to enjoying life is just living it, without thinking how unfair or fair it has been to you.
We usually label something unfair, bad or wrong when we don't like or don't understand whatever has occurred.
Given the immense complexity of organizing the universe, who's to say things are not only fair, but proceeding according to plan?
I like this quote: “Wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair and all the terrible things that happen to us, come because we actually deserve them? So now I take comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the Universe” Marcus Cole
Interesting question Stoneweaver and food for thought!

It has been really interesting reading your interpretations and comments on this. I deliberately left it a little vague - to see how people would respond.
I find myself often saying 'Life isn't fair' and I think I'm going to stop doing this for two reasons:
1) As some of you pointed out, life may be perfectly fair but we just don't see it.
2) By saying 'Life isn't fair' am I creating a self-fulfilling prophecy?
Lastly I turn to the Tao. The Tao te ching asks man to be fair in all his dealings, but life or 'the tao' is beyond fairness. It is neither fair nor unfair. It just is.
I moved from the UK to Christchurch, New Zealand, in February 2009. I'm loving it – especially the trees!

Probably very bored.
If life was fair, wouldn't it be a perfect world? What's wrong with that? Why shouldn't people live in harmony, on an equal footing?
But then, who is to say what is fair? Isn't just a personal interpretation?
There is one thing for sure, I wish life would be more fair than it is now.

i suspect I'd love it and never ever ever get upset about anything...at the same time though, I think it would be just a tad boring...
It sounds nice, but it would probably be boring :) On the other hand, maybe life IS fair, but we're just too small to see the bigger picture!

i would be suspicious and think life had an ulterior motive for being so nice and fair
I never thought I would say this, but I don't think I would grow and learn as much if life were fair.
It would probably be amazingly peaceful ... Enchanting I guess ...
Or maybe it is fair and we just don't see the overall picture? :-)
It has been really interesting reading your interpretations and comments on this. I deliberately left it a little vague - to see how people would respond.

My first thought was that life would be boring...what lessons would we learn?
But then...life just "is"...the Tao is amazing! This post is very thought provoking.
Caroline - I agree the Tao is so amazing - and gives great insights.
