I was going to write you a long and complicated article, but I'm resting today – so this is the shortened version.
After a prolonged period of stress or physical illness the body is left depleted and we need to take some time to recharge our batteries. But how many of us do? How often do we keep on truckin' until the only thing that stops us is burn out.
Actors use the term 'resting' as a euphemism for being out of work. But for most of us, the term is antiquated and little used. We don't rest, we go on holiday, we have a 'staycation' where we do stuff round the house. We are always 'doing' something.

Why the pic of Hattie Jacques? Because in the days of Carry On Matron and black-and-white films, convalescence was something doctors still prescribed for their patients. Today we are encouraged to take a pill and carry on.
If you are feeling overwhelmed by life or just plain tired out, find yourself a free day, afternoon or even just a couple of hours. Write yourself a 'to do' list that says: 'Nothing in particular'. Close the door and rest.
You'll feel better for it!

very wise... x
I'm already good at this ;DDD
Excellent advise Stoneweaver!
When my body tells me I am tired, I take to my bed, put the answer machine on and shut the world out.
No "soldiering on" for this Aussie!!

Such good advise. I can't tell you the times that I have become interested in a movie on TV on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and felt guilty because I took the time to watch it. Why do I feel like every minute of my day should be filled with some kind of work?
That is exactly what I did yesterday, I watched movies and laid on the couch and forgot about all the things I had to do. I hope you get the chance for you too. always a pleasure visiting here. you always have words of wisdom. hugs to you.
Great post...and very much needed advice! I am going to (mostly) rest today, aside from the odd pile of laundry that needs washing and the dog that needs walking.
I love this. May your rest be nourishing and healing.
Glad to hear that my blog buddies are well versed in the art of resting! ;o)
Yes we should self prescribe a daily "nanny" nap as well as that apple ...
